4/5/2020 Chktex For Mac
Figueroa-Centeno in the Department of Mathematics in Hawai`i has posted instructions for getting the LaTeX syntax checker, ChkTeX, running under MacOS X. 1) Open Terminal on your Mac. 2) Type sudo tlmgr update -self to update the TeX Live Manager itself. 3) Once the process is complete, we will update all packages already installed by BasicTex. To do so, type sudo tlmgr update -all. Installing Packages. Now we will install the necessary packages. They are: latexmk, latexindent, synctext, chktex and texcount.

Not really I just google on the fly if I have specific questions. If you have the Windows subsystem for Linux installed you can simply change the terminal VSCode uses to the ubuntu bash for example.

You can also change some settings for plugins like Code Runner or the Latex workshop in VScode to run in the terminal. For latex it makes sense since there are some problems that are easier solveld in Linux like including graphviz.dot code segments directly in your tex files and have them be integrated into your pdfs directly. The steps you want to take are:. Looking up how to enable and install the subsystem. Getting to know the Linux bash and configuring some things like default user, how to install and update packages from repositories etc.
Google specific solutions for your specific problems.I mainly did it so I didn't have to do the assignments for my Systems programming class in a VM. For most of the stuff i need Linux for in my degree I can simply use the subsystem. If you want to do CAD you have to get Windows. Or maybe a Mac.
I love Linux, but there simply aren't first rate CAD programs available for it. FreeCAD, Salome, OpenSCAD all have things that are great about them, and FreeCAD is clearly getting a lot of development effort, but none of them are anything short of 10 years behind the commercial cad programs.
MacOS is okay if you want to use one of the few CAD programs available for it: Rhino3D. AutoCAD, etc.The only way to get away with CAD on Linux is to either accept that you're using hobbyist tools or possibly Onshape, which is CAD in the browser and appears to be OS independent. Alternatively, have a second windows partition that you boot into for CAD work.
